Miss Waiting

The world doesn't just disappear when you close your eyes, does it?



大四第一堂外文系的課，是賴俊雄老師的文學理論與詮釋，與其論鬼神的存在，我對真理的定義更感興趣。但這不是因為喜歡思考難解的問題，只是我想到了《Memento》這部電影、我想到了它高超剪輯和懸疑劇情表層下，探討真理的細膩思考，讓我對這部片大大改觀。我在想，就算錯看了片商自以為聰明把順序排好好的台灣版，此片所探討的中心主旨鐵定依舊迷人。

"Memory's unreliable. Look, memory can change the shape of a room. It can change the color of a car. And memory can be distorted. They're just an interpretation."
真理只有一個，而它只存在於事發的當下，任何事後的表述或記錄都不是真實，因為回憶抓不住所有細節，人心會扭曲事實，它們都只是某種詮釋下的重現。

"There are things you know for sure." (pick up an ashtray) "I know what that's gonna sound like when I knock on it. I know what that's gonna feel like when I pick it up. See? Certainties. It's the kind of memory you take for granted."
真理存在於任何地方，拿起玻璃杯有重量，放開手杯子就會落下、會破脆、會發出聲響，諸如此類不變的事實卻總被視為理所當然，殊不知這是充滿謊言的世界裡難能可貴的真相。

這麼一說，好像我們就能依賴感官一樣，但這又要怎麼解釋呢？

難道閉上眼睛只見一片漆黑，世界就消失了嗎？

原來Christopher Nolan比我以為的還要厲害，原來這就是我喜歡這部片的原因，而Guy Pearce破碎的聲音也很扣人心弦。如果沒人跟我聊真理是怎麼一回事，我大概永遠都無法釐清看完《Memento》的共鳴吧。所以下一部要重看《The Following》，然後好好想想為什麼這會是我最愛的諾蘭片。
